UKTI US Music Report
UK Trade & Investment is the lead government organisation that provides support for UK companies looking to develop their international business, first by giving business advice and second by introducing companies to new markets.
On behalf of the UK music industry UK Trade & Investment has produced a 300 page report of the US music industry which provides valuable information on routes to market and profiles of key music centres throughout the US and together with details of radio stations, promoters, managers/agents, labels, and venues. The US music industry has two strategically important hubs, each with critical significance: New York and Los Angeles. Music companies looking to enter the US market should make these centres their starting point.
The report states that UK music has 'enjoyed a modest but exciting recovery' in the US over the last few years and credits a variety of factors for this including; the success of South by Southwest, satellite radio and synchronisation, record labels releasing CDs with extra content and at lower prices, and UK acts producing strong acts in genres outside of pop and rock. It also highlights the need for UK artists and companies to research the music industry and understand the business side. It suggests that artists should not rely on their record company for promotion, instead becoming proactive in this field themselves.
The US Music Report is broken down into individual states. Each document gives an overview of the state and details the key areas of interest:
- Atlanta
- Boston
- Chicago
- Denver
- Houston
- Los Angeles
- Miami
- Nashville
- New York City
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Washington DC
