Pink Floyd receive 2008 Polar Prize
Legendary psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd have received the 2008 Polar Prize from Sweden. Band members Nick Mason and Roger Walters were presented with the award by Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf during a ceremony in Stockholm yesterday.
The Polar Prize is the country’s most prestigious music award and was given to Pink Floyd for their outstanding contribution to popular music.
The prize was founded in 1989 by Abba’s manager Stig Anderson and is typically split between pop and classical musicians. Each winner receives a standing ovation and each prize is worth $157, 700.
