Pavarotti dies
World famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti has died at his home in Modena, northern Italy, aged 71.
The singer had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2006. He had surgery last year, five months after his last performance and had not made any public appearances since then.
Together with Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo, Pavarotti crossed opera over into the mainstream. Domingo said he had 'always admired the God-given glory' of Pavarotti's voice, while Carreras called him 'one of the most important tenors of all time'. His funeral takes place this Saturday.
