Almost Famous performer nominated for Mercury Prize

The Mercury Prize nominations for 2009’s best album were announced today, all but one of the nominees are PRS for Music members including Speech Debelle who performed at the Almost Famous Showcase back in June.  Speech was nominated for her album ‘Speech Therapy’.

Speech DebelleShe headlined the Almost Famous showcase with a great 30 minutes set, when she spoke to our cameras during the event she talked of putting a deposit on a house and going on holiday with her first PRS for Music payment and discussed how conversations, and relationships with family and friends inspired her lyrics and songwriting.  She also told us how the best advice she has been given was “Keep ‘em smiling” and she must be smiling at the announcement of her nomination

When chatting about being a PRS for Music member she talked about the advice, information and help that PRS for Music has given her so she has been able to widen her knowledge of the music industry.

You can see part of her performance and interview from the showcase along with those of the other performers from the night (Bright Light Bright Light, Stars and Sons, Howard Jones).
