New digital format announced
EMI are to take DRM (Digital Rights Management) off their music sold through download services it has been announced.
In a joint press conference held in London today, EMI boss Eric Nicoli and Apple boss Steve Jobs joined forces to unveil this new venture.
This announcement signals the first time a major label has allowed its catalogue to be sold without copy protection and the tracks will be compatible with any digital player.
Every song in EMI's catalogue will be available for a higher price of 99p and customers can upgrade their current tracks and get rid of DRM for an extra 15p.
iTunes will begin selling these tracks from May 2007.
