New file format enabling user interaction revealed
A new file format being developed in Korea, named MT9, will permit listeners to edit the music they like.
Whereas existing formats such as WAV, MP3 and AAC play sounds from a single track, MT9s will contain a separate track for each instrument, thereby allowing listeners to produce different versions of the same songs by tweaking the volumes levels of each instrument.
The potential uses of the new format include stripping out a vocal line to produce karaoke versions of songs, or creating an a capella version of a track by removing all instruments.
