What a sad loss…such a great ‘performer’ and excellent songwriter; a huge loss in terms of another ‘icon’ has gone. Irrespective of your own musical tastes you have to admire what he achieved.

I was never a massive fan of Michael Jackson before i went to University in 2001. I was introduced to the shear attitude and skill of "Thriller" by my then house mates. It blew me away on many different levels and fixed him in my mind as one of the very few artists that actually have made a lasting difference/change on popular music. His collaboration (and that was what it was if i understand correctly) with Quincy Jones was awesome. I have found myself thinking of Michael all day today [26/6/09] which has surprised me. I really will miss him. He was one of the very few living legends. My thoughts are now with his family.

Both my husband and I are musicians (Jah-Quest & Lady Quest) from the Bahamas. My mother grew us up on listening and watching the best of the best music video with the one and only King of Pop. When I heard the news it was very devastating to me and it took me by surprise. I know that we all have to go someday, but he will truly be missed and remembered for decades and decades to come.
To his family, I offer my prayers and condolences, because inspite of all the situations he encountered via the media within his personal life, he still managed to remain calm accepting life's challenges one day at a time. I LOVE HIM and he has always inspired me musically and by the way he dressed. He was truly unique, a one-in-a-million gem.
Here in The Bahamas, he is being talked about with much love and adoration. We too, lost a very special Radio Personality aka "Fat Back" on yesterday for the same cause, but there is a time for everything under the sun.

I met Michael back in 2001 in London. I was 18 and my dear uncle was his doctor at the time. On the floor, Michael's favourite banners laid, from the screaming fans outside the hotel.
'Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, but you Michael, did the moonwalk on Earth'...I will never forget the inspiring tips he said to me for being a musician.
He uttered, softly, 'Follow your heart....play the classics...I've always loved Debussy's Arabesque and Copland...'
We hugged and took some photos. What a rare feeling of excitement.
May he rest in peace for he truly is the King of Pop.

No matter what music genre you write or perform you have to admire the amazing talent that was Michael Jackson. He was an inspiration to many musicians outside of his style with the brilliance and energy he put into a performance. His music will live on and I have no doubt that it will continue to influence many more young artists. I can not say that he influenced me at all but I admired greatly what he gave to music.

Michael Jackson lived and breathed entertainment and was able to deliver the most sublime tunes with voice and dance that will never be equaled. As ever when you dedicate your life, mind and body to a medium such as pop music, things that seem normal inside can seem abnormal from the outside for this he received a rough deal that ultimately dealt a heavy blow. The reasons behind this castigation will soon fade, this man brought so much joy to the world, was able to cut through race and bring together peoples of all nationalities and color. His music and flamboyant persona will live on for ever in the worlds memory as simply class.
