Manic Street Preachers to be crowned NME Godlike Geniuses

The Manic Street Preachers are to receive the NME's Godlike Genius award, the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award, at the upcoming NME awards.

It has also been announced that the Manics are to headline the inaugural Shockwaves NME Big Gig at the O2 arena which will take place straight after the awards on the 28 February 2008. Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Klaxons and The Cribs are also due to perform.

Previous recipients of the NME Godlike Genius award include PRS members New Order, The Clash, Ian Brown and last year's recipients, Primal Scream.
