John Martyn wins BBC lifetime achievement award

Scottish folk musician John Martyn has been awarded the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards lifetime achievement honour in a ceremony held at The Brewery in London on Monday, 4 February 2008.

The award was presented by the artist's friend Phil Collins and was accompanied by a special message from Eric Clapton.

Martyn, who has been writing and performing music for over 40 years, performed three songs at the ceremony accompanied by regular collaborators Alan Thomson, Spencer Cozens and Arran Ahumn.
