Coldplay top US Album chart

In it's first week of release in the States, Coldplay's latest album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends has debuted at the number one spot on The Billboard 200 album chart.

The band's fourth album shifted 721,000 copies which is the highest first-week figure recorded in the Billboard charts since the UK band's third album hit American shelves and sold some 737,000 copies in its first week.

The band are set to reinforce their chart and sales successes with a US tour in July and August 2008.
