Congratulations to the winners of this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
The Folk Awards celebrate the best in folk, roots and acoustic music.
This year, guitarist Sam Carter was presented with the Horizon Award for Best New Artist, while Texan singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith and Scottish songwriter and guitarist Dick Gaughan were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Folk Club Of The Year was won by North London’s The Magpie’s Nest, Musician of the Year was accordion player John Kirkpatrick, Folk Singer Of The Year was Jon Boden and one of Boden’s bands, Bellowhead, won best live act.
Winners of the Best Duo Award, Show Of Hands, performed Best Original Song award winner Steve Knightley’s composition Arrogance Ignorance And Greed. There was a performance from best group winners Lau; Cara Dillon sang Spencer The Rover from Album of the Year Hill Of Thieves; Martin Simpson performed the song voted Best Traditional Track Sir Patrick Spens and Best Group nominees, Ade Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds demonstrated their skill in turning songs associated with punk bands into folk music.
The Awards, now in the 11th year, were compared by R2 presenter Mike Harding.
