Kylie honoured as PRS and PPL sponsor Music Industry Trusts’ Award
The 2007 Music Industry Trusts’ Award (MITS) took place on 29 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
In a joint industry initiative, PRS and PPL united to sponsor the prestigious award, which was presented this year to Kylie Minogue in ‘recognition of her universally acclaimed status as an icon of pop and style achieved over a 20 year career which has seen her reinvent, experiment and inspire.’
It i s the first time in the history of the MITS that the award has been given to a woman, and in a show of solidarity, younger sister Dannii was on hand to make the presentation.
Many of those who have worked with Kylie over the years were present on the evening, as well as a wide array of industry guests ; ensuring the evening had the requisite glamour and glitz as befitted the award recipient. Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Cathy Dennis, Elaine Paige and Andrew Lloyd- Webber were there to help Kylie celebrate in person while Bono, Sting and Chris Martin all paid tribute to her in a specially commissioned film.
Kylie rounded off the night by performing a sultry, jazz-lounge version of her first UK hit, I Should Be So Lucky, with Jamie Cullum accompanying her on piano. Then Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters joined them both on stage for an electric performance of Kylie’s new single, 2 Hearts.
The MITS raises money for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and the BRIT Trust. In the sixteen years since its inception, the total raised from its proceeds amounts to £2.7m.
The PRS and PPL joint sponsorship is an important example of the two industry licensing organisations working together.
