PRS for Music is the official and exclusive music-industry sponsor of the British Music Experience (BME). The BME is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of popular music in Britain.
The BME looks at popular music from 1945 through to the current day and is a combination of cutting edge audio-visual technology and the most coveted music memorabilia of all time. Over 100 artists feature in the exhibition from The Beatles, to Iron Maiden, from Cilla Black to Elastica, from David Bowie to Motorhead with in depth looks at musical genres from Skiffle to Reggae, from Rock n Roll to Blues, from Punk to Urban.
The exhibition highlights include:
- ‘dance the decades’ - visitors can have a virtual lesson and learn how to jive, Macarena, or even do the locomotion
- ‘Anatomy of a pop star’ allows visitors, by touching various parts of a model pop star, discover all the different people who contribute to the success of a music star
- ‘The Great Divide’ highlights the contrast between music produced in the North and the South in the UK between 1979 and 1990.
PRS for Music will be welcoming visitors to the BME with a ‘song writing connections’ display utilising rotating 42” plasma screens highlighting the wealth of UK writing talent. In the Anatomy of a Pop Star exhibit, the organisation will be connecting the concept of copyright and royalties to how songwriters, composers and publishers earn from their work. Crucially, PRS for Music will be embedded into the rolling-education programme which will see all school children in the UK being invited to attend classes and workshops to learn about the art of song writing, the concept of copyright and how royalties are paid.
