Make It HappenMake it Happen at The Great Escape

15th May 2009
Brighton

The second Make it Happen took place at the Artist Village at The Great Escape festival in Brighton, with industry experts giving practical advice on today’s music industry.

The panellists:
Jules Parker, Membership Development, PRS for Music
Steve Proud, A&R Manager
Paul Reed, Generator, Evolution Festival
Myles Keller, Head of Membership Development at PRS for Music
Ross Millard, Guitarist, Singer and Songwriter from The Futureheads
Amul Batra, Fwinki Music

The panel which lasted two hours was made up of questions submitted before and asked on the day with the panellists drawing from their experience to give advice on things like:

  • How do bands make the transition from specialist radio play to the mainstream without alienating their current fans
  • What are good ways of connecting with the audience when playing live?
  • Do people need an agent before festivals will book them?
  • How do we create a fan base in Manchester, when we are based in Brighton?

The hottest topics of the days were:

When, how and why should bands communicate with fans?
Promoters are asking bands to guarantee numbers at gig, should they do this?
Are there any merchandise companies the panel could recommend?
