Almost Famous Showcase March 2010

On Thursday 4th March the PRS for Music and Curious Generation ‘Almost Famous’ showcase took place at the Gibson Guitar Studio. A mixture of fans, industry and PRS for Music members enjoyed three performances by up and coming acts. Despite a very cold March night the venue was full, the bar busy with all of the audience very appreciative of the complimentary beer provided by Tuborg.

Jamie N Commons and his eclectic band, started off the showcase, looking stylish in a grey suit topped with a massive hat. Their 30 minute set got the evening off to a great start.  Jamie’s classically-trained voice rose above the crowd and took everyone’s attention - the upbeat mixture of folk and rock had the crowd swaying.

Next up Kill it Kid, whose singer Chris Turpin has a huge voice that you can’t quite believe comes from such a young guy. Partnered with female vocalist Steph Ward, they sang songs describing “screwed up relationships” in their own distinctive rock/blues/folk style.

Ending the night on a high of testosterone was Jay and the Boys.  The boys took to the stage and the audience seemed to rearrange itself with a heavy female presence at the front.  Jay’s vocals were compared to Paolo Nutini and Rod Stewart within earshot.  The upbeat radio-friendly pop was punctuated by an acoustic ballad which showcased his voice further and made the ladies in the front row swoon all the more.

PRS for Music would like to thank Gibson, Tuborg, Curious Generation, Music 4.5, the bands and everyone who came and made it a great night – see you at the next one!
