RadioDigital radio deadline approaches

The deadline for the new national digital multiplex licence application approaches this week, marking a significant change for UK Commercial radio.

The new licence will play an important role in determining the balance of power among commercial operators, giving the successful applicant control of up to 10 new services for a minimum of 12 years.

Channel 4 and GCap are major competitors for the licence and each has announced a number of key partners in a bid to strengthen their applications. 

The applications will be reviewed by regulator Ofcom and the licence is expected to be awarded sometime in the Summer.
