Join MCPS - earn mechanical royalties

Music publishers, songwriters and composers can join MCPS to earn royalties when musical works from their catalogue are reproduced, such as for CDs and digital downloads.

Joining MCPS – what do you need?

You are eligible to join MCPS if you have a piece of music in your catalogue that has been:

commercially released by a record company (not one that you own), or
recorded into a radio or TV programme, or
recorded in an audio-visual or multimedia production, or
used online.

Songwriters please note: this piece of music must not have been entered into an agreement with a music publisher because the publisher will very likely be collecting mechanical royalties for it already. Membership does not guarantee you will receive any royalties.

Before you apply to join MCPS

Please have the following items to refer to as you complete the application form:

Evidence - documentation confirming the mechanical usage of one of your pieces of music
ID – photocopies of relevant documents confirming your identity
Bank account details where royalties should be deposited
A printer

Evidence needed to join MCPS

The piece of music referred to in your MCPS membership application has been:	Evidence needed
Commercially released by a record company (not a record company you own)	a photocopy of the sleeve/artwork for the recording clearly indicating that you have a writer or publisher credit (as appropriate) a letter from the record company (on their headed paper) confirming they have released a recording featuring your music
Recorded into a radio or TV programme	a music cue sheet for the production clearly detailing inclusion of your music
Recorded in an audio-visual or multimedia production	a letter from the production company (on their headed paper) confirming inclusion of your music in the production
Used online	a music cue sheet for the production clearly detailing inclusion of your music

Songwriters/composers

A photocopy of your birth certificate or passport

Music publishers

Sole traders – a photocopy of your birth certificate or passport
Partnerships - a photocopy of the partnership agreement, plus a copy of each partner’s birth certificate or passport
Limited companies - a photocopy of the Certificate of Incorporation as well as a copy of the Memorandum & Articles of Association

Membership fees

The admission fee is the same for publishers, songwriters and composers - £50.00, inclusive of VAT (cheque payable to MCPS Ltd.)

Publishers - complete our online application form, print out, make copies of all the relevant documentation and send to us
