PRS for Music Licenses Amazon Cloud Player

PRS for Music announces a licensing agreement for Amazon’s innovative music service: Cloud Player.

The Amazon Cloud Player lets users 'scan and match' their music collection and access it anywhere simultaneously on any device they own including Kindle Fire, Android phones and tablets, iPhones, iPod Touches, Macs and PCs.

In addition to the paid for service, Amazon users are being offered an introductory tier allowing up to 250 songs to be stored free of charge.

Cloud services are fast becoming the future platform for music consumption due to the simplicity of access to music libraries. PRS for Music's Pan-European Licence with Amazon will enable music users to access PRS for Music's growing range of independent repertoire from IMPEL, Peer and IMAGEM including songwriters such as Ray Davies, David Bowie, Nick Cave and Scott McMahon who writes for Beyonce.

We issued our first licence for a cloud music service in 2010 and have been licensing digital services for over a decade. Technology is allowing consumers in the UK and across Europe to discover music in new ways, while also providing new income sources for the creators we represent.  Amazon’s fourteen year success story in the UK demonstrates that it is in this country where technology and content combine so successfully for the benefit of users and creators alike.

PRS for Music has supported the launch of over 70 fully-licensed online music services and has now licensed a range of cloud services from providers including iTunes and 7 Digital, with more set to follow in the next few months.
