PRS for Music supports Bermuda Peace Day Concert
International and local songwriters perform at special tribute to Bob Marley and The Beatles
PRS for Music today confirmed its support of the second annual Lennon Bermuda Peace Day Concert taking place this Saturday, 21 September 2013.
This year’s event, hosted by the hilarious Jimmy Keys brings together two of the most successful and well loved genres in a tribute to Bob Marley and The Beatles featuring on the bill:

John Lennon is inarguably one of the greatest songwriters and indeed PRS for Music members that the world has known. We know he loved Bermuda and it is such a privilege to be involved with this great concert where so many international and local musicians play side by side. It is vital the live music industry is nurtured so it can go on producing enormous talents like Marley and Lennon and Lennon Bermuda Peace Day Concert is a great ambassador for the important role music plays.
PRS for Music represents songwriters, composers and music publishers and has been working in the region for a number of years helping local businesses understand the value of copyright so they can use music legally which ensures creators of musical works can earn a living.
The organisation has recently stepped up efforts with a new campaign to reach the hospitality and broadcast sectors and is liaising with the Registrar General, Consumer Affairs, Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation and Bermuda Chamber of Commerce departments so that businesses using music have access to information about music licensing.
PRS for Music is proud to have a significant number of well known local Bermudian songwriters as its members such as Stan (Lord Necktie) Seymour, and the late Hubert Smith and is engaging with the wider Bermudian music community so they too can enjoy the benefits of becoming songwriter members.
About the Bermuda Peace Concert
In June 1980, John Lennon sailed to Bermuda on a yacht for an extended vacation. The experience sparked his musical genius and within just 6 weeks he wrote and completed 25 songs, breaking a 5-year writer’s block. The resulting comeback album was entitled Double Fantasy, named for a flower he had seen in the Bermuda Botanical Gardens.
The event raises money for RIDE THE WAVE, a foundation created to sponsor musical artists, assisting children with music development and donating instruments to the schools. The 2012 concert raised $92,500 and is committed raising even more for proceeds for charity this year.
