PRS for Music pays tribute to board member Lynsey de Paul

It is with great sadness that PRS for Music confirms its Board member, Lynsey de Paul, died unexpectedly of a brain haemorrhage on 1 October 2014.

Lynsey enjoyed an extremely distinguished career as a songwriter. Beginning in 1971, she wrote numerous top twenty hit records and theme tunes and was the first woman to receive an Ivor Novello Award.

Her accomplishments extended beyond songwriting. In the early 1990s she released a self-defence film for women and presented a documentary on the subject for which she earned a Royal Television Society Award. Her film was updated and released again in 2006.

Lynsey served as a highly valued PRS Board Director from 2006 and was also a Trustee of the Members Benevolent Fund.

I am devastated that my dear friend and colleague of forty years has passed away. Lynsey was an inspiration to all who met her – immensely talented, passionate and a natural people person. She was an active role model for PRS for Music and a pioneering female songwriter. This is a tragic loss for our organisation and the music industry. She will be deeply missed.

I am shocked that such a vital and vibrant member of our Board has passed away so suddenly. Lynsey was a great champion of songwriter’s rights and played an esteemed role promoting the value of music. It was truly an honour to know and work with Lynsey. We will all feel her loss for years to come.
