Almost Famous comes to Belfast

Showcasing Jason Clarke, Gascan Ruskus and Katie and the Carnival

PRS for Music has announced that the next Almost Famous showcase event featuring the best new acts will take place on Thursday 3rd June at the Duke of York, pub in Belfast.

The event will showcase Jason Clarke, Gascan Ruskus and Katie and the Carnival - three of the UK’s freshest up and coming bands.

Previous Almost Famous Showcasers have included Mercury winning Speech Debelle who headlined the initial gig in June 2009, Kill it Kid, Bobby Long, whose music is included in hit-vampire-flick Twilight and Jay & the Boys. The Belfast showcase is the 4th in the series and the very first to be held outside of London.

Doors Open: 7.45pm, Thursday 3rd June 2010
First Act on: 8.15pm
Where: Duke of York, 3-11 Commercial Road, Belfast
Line up: Jason Clarke, Gascan Ruskus, Katie and the Carnival
Entry is free and based on a first come first served basis. To apply to attend visit: www.prsformusic.com/almostfamous

Line up:
Katie and the Carnival
Inspired by love, loss, bitterness, heartache and the dark depths of the imagination Katie and the Carnival tell stories and sing songs that display sensibilities both vulnerable and powerful. With an extensive background in choral music, Katie's songs are harmony driven with touches of the jazz, roots and blues music she grew up on. Add a contemporary twist, a few toy shop instruments and a healthy dollop of theatrics and there you have it!

Gascan Ruckus
Gascan Ruckus are an eight legged alternative punk rock machine from Co. Armagh, known for discharging an aural assault fusing old school rock and east bay punk. Their trademark has become their energetic performances and ‘leave everything on stage’ attitude. Gascan Ruckus released their first EP shortly after forming in 2007 which became a surprising favourite on the Gerry Anderson show. Since then they recorded several new tracks including Wolves Terrain which has become a crowd favourite following the songs success on nichart.com, topping the chart for two weeks in a row. In recent months Gascan Ruckus returned to the studio to record their second EP “The Governor” produced by Ben McAuley in Start Together studios in Belfast.

Jason Clarke

Jason Clarke started writing at the tender age of 18, with his first song “Payback”. Now, at the age of 25, and having just graduated from university, he is concentrating on making a name for himself in the world of singer/songwriters.

The Belfast born singer is certainly not an amateur musician, having supported Paolo Nutini on tour and shared the stage with well known bands such as Fighting with Wire, General Fiasco and Jetplane Landing. He has also co-written and been master classed by world renowned professional song-writers, including Beth Nielsen Chapman, Iain Archer and JD Souther.  He has often been compared to that of Cat Stevens and Tracy Chapman due to the acoustic nature of his writing, with his new collection of songs, representing a deeper more mature sound.
