Ellis Rich

Ellis Rich remains au fait with the needs of writers and publishers, always seeking improvements in how creators can be rewarded. Solid relevant music industry experience makes Ellis ideally qualified to return to his PRS directorship with his broad history in music publishing, charitable work, media appearances, copyright seminars, and political contacts. Personal interests include music, bridge, politics, travel, table tennis, gastronomy and charitable work.

Awarded an OBE in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours for Services To Music Publishing and conferred with an Honorary Doctorate Of Music by Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge in 2012.

Background

Joined Feldman’s Music (later, EMI Music Publishing) as arranger, transcribing Queen tracks for piano. Appointed International Manager, then formed E&S Music with Simon Cowell in 1981 and Supreme Songs in 1985.

Appointed PRS Publisher Director in 1993 and Deputy Chairman (Publisher) in 1995, serving maximum permitted tenure of six years. Continuing on PRS Board as Publishing Director, Ellis was elected PRS Chairman in 2005, again serving maximum six year tenure. During his Chairmanship, Ellis took proactive efforts to promote diversity among PRS membership and staff, introducing a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Ellis chairs Small Green Shoots; a registered charity receiving Arts Council funding, encouraging young people’s progression in the music industry. He frequently gives seminars to young musicians and songwriters, UK and overseas.
