Hotels and guesthouses

“Music can play an important role in producing a friendly, welcome atmosphere, allowing you to create the ambience that suits your customers’ needs”

Playing music in your hotel can:

  • Mask private conversations
  • Encourage customers to stay longer, and order more drinks/food
  • Encourage repeat visits

You will need a licence from PRS for Music to cover music used in reception areas (for example on a TV) as well as audio equipment and TV sets in guest bedrooms. Our licence gives you the legal permission you need to play the songs you want.

What does a Music Licence cover?

A Music Licence permits you to play copyright music for your staff and customers, however you choose to play music (public performance). In your premises this might include:

  • Music on TV channels (reception areas and guest bedrooms)
  • Radios, CD & MP3 players, digital music systems
  • Music on hold
  • Live bands and DJs
  • Karaoke machines
